Large tiles (600 × 600mm and bigger) need more care than standard tiles:
- Flat surface: the floor or wall must be very flat; use levelling compound if it isn't.
- Full adhesive cover: spread adhesive on the floor and butter the back of each tile.
- Levelling clips: use a levelling clip system to keep tiles flush with each other.
- Two people: handle big tiles with two people, or with suction lifters.
- Overlap no more than a third: if you're laying large tiles in a staggered pattern, each tile should overlap the next by no more than a third of its length. Brick bond, where each tile overlaps the next by half, isn't recommended.
We'd recommend an experienced tiler for large-format tiles.
